The thesis utilizes the finite element software, ANSYS, to simulate the sound field of a musical instrument. The trumpet (model Jupiter STR-1700) is taken as the physical system for the acoustic analysis. Data from theoretical acoustic analysis and ANSYS of a taper tube are compared to verify the finite element software. Then, the actual trumpet is analyzed by ANSYS and the experiments are also conducted for comparison to confirm the accuracy of simulation results. From the data, these two methods can provide similar trends of the acoustic characteristics of the system. A supposition can be made for the correction of the ANSYS model. Furthermore, the analysis is used for the design of the instrument.
