隨者物流業、流行性商品、生鮮超市或半導體業的蓬勃發展，損耗性存貨的管理越來越受到重視。在現實的世界中，「時間」對於存貨來說顯然是一項重要的考量因素，某些存貨如果儲存的時間過長會造成損耗、揮發、腐敗、變質以及過期等現象，其存貨的價值與數量也會因此而降低或減少，這類型存貨通稱為「易腐性存貨」（Perishable or deteriorating inventory）。而擁有「損耗性存貨」特性的汽車出租業，存貨的變動性與消費者的需求既是充滿著無法確定性而且又受價格機制來左右。
本研究站在汽車出租商期望獲利的立場，利用價格的機制，以調整價格的方式改變市場需求，促進顧客租用的意願。同時，對於消費者的心中價值能提供正確的描述與分析，則可提升汽車出租業需求預測的正確度，進而訂定出最適價格，並達到整體的期望利潤極大為主要目的。
