Bitcoin is the first electronic money that allows online payments without financial institution. To further understand how the academia investigated this emerging discipline, research papers with keyword bitcoin during 2011 to 2017 were collected from the Scopus database in this research. The objectives of this study are to provided different angles to understand the development of bitcoin research by using visual analytics, network analysis and text mining. From the results of visual analytics, the number of bitcoin researches started to grow after 2013. Analytics also indicate that the most productive country regarding bitcoin research was the U.S., and the most published research subfields was computer science. From the result of network analysis, bitcoin literature can be classified into three categories that include “bitcoin transaction and information security”, “bitcoin optimization” and “bitcoin network protocol”. The purpose of this study also focused on revealing the important topics which were transaction, currency, peer to peer, international, nature, innovation, economic in Bitcoin by assessing the correlation between Author Keywords, Keywords Plus and keywords. Through our study, scholars may find a more extensive point of view to understand the literature of bitcoin and develop research topics.
