The most critical key to success of the enterprises is to shorten time to market. The way to achieve comes from the ability of well-defined design chains across enterprise, not the abilities of individuals in the enterprise.
The collaboration in the design chains, however, is roughly due to the existing complexity such as diverse design process and dynamic design environments. To settle the collaboration problems in the design chains, a collaborative design process model (CDPM) is proposed in this thesis. The thesis intends to combine methods which construct the CDPM such as HMG, GTST-MLD and UML. The CDPM consists of four levels. Level 1, this phase is a macroscopic strategic view, defines three goals to achieve business mission. Level 2, the first part of HMG called MFM is used to represent a series of functions to meet goals. The second part of HMG called GTST is used to show capabilities of different stakeholder to meet functions. Level 3, we apply GTST-MLD represents the assistant mechanisms. Level 4, we show specific operators’ activities by UML
Using the proposed framework, a project manager can make the collaborative process clearly. If it does not have firm process, he/she can take CDPM as reference to construct one. If it has one already, he/she can set processes by CDPM with benefits that accompany with modeling CDPM.
