This study is aimed at measuring firms patents quality in the overall network by using the centrality of Freeman (1978) from January 13, 1976 to March 11, 2014, which holding photovoltaic patents. Furthermore, use the "fixed-effects" approach by Hall et al. (2001) proposed to adjust the probability of patent citation, including the patent features, firms characteristics, and discuss whether the network centrality of the patent held by the firms has an impact on its productivity.
The result show that the degree of patent network centrality has a positive effect on productivity, especially the indegree centrality and incloseness centrality is significant, indicating that the number of patents cited has a strong impact on productivity. In addition, the coefficient of centrality after the probability of adjusting the patent is increased. Besides, the scope of patent applications and productivity is significantly positive correlation, indicating that more the scope of the application of its higher productivity.
