本篇論文與先前文獻中所提出的關聯規則演算法最大的不同，在於以前的關聯規則演算法是專注在每筆顧客交易內商品項目之間的關係，而本文提出的方法，是專注在商店內或商店間商品項目之間的關係，而商品之間的關係包括了商品間的銷售量關係和商品間的價格關係。同時，關聯規則中的商品可以跨概念階層，且銷售量關係和價格關係是具語意的關係，而不只是單純的數量關係。
