Since the industrial revolution, energy has dominated our lives. Among the all renewable energy resources, Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) have received much attention of academic and industrial due to its low-cost and simple manufacturing process. Sensitizer is one of the key components which will greatly affect the performance in DSSC; therefore, numerous researchers have developed various kinds of novel dye and achieve significant efficiency. Ruthenium-based dye was one of the best we have;however, it also led to some serious issues, such as environmental pollution and its rarity; thus, we would like to design some novel metal complex sensitizers to replace it.

The sensitizer IP-101, made up by indole derivatives possessing the advantage of high total yield, was designed and synthesized, and later play as a ligand in 4-coordinated palladium complex. Compared with the original ligand, the UV-Vis spectrum of palladium complex shows obviously red-shift in absorption band which could be beneficial to sensitizers of dye-sensitized solar cells.
