大部分的機械系統,在使用的時間或操作過程中都會受到磨耗、腐蝕、疲勞等因素,而系統強度慢慢的退化,使需求大於供給的機率變大,失效率便會增大,可靠度也會因此慢慢降低。所以可靠度跟系統強度有其密切的關係存在,若能獲得兩者變化的關係,對於系統的維護將有很大的幫助,如可以在有效使用的群體中得知系統所處狀況的強度,來做有效的維護措施。
對於大多的機械材料都有損傷累積的性質存在,是材料產生疲勞的原因,而一般疲勞試驗中最常使用S-N曲線來描述,應實際工程需要而結合適當的損傷模式,以求得材料之損傷累積值。而此種疲勞的狀況在工程上是很常遇見的問題,所以本文也將對Miner''s rule的損傷模式,結合可靠度的觀點即材料強度退化的式子,來進行損傷累積過程的模擬,並以實驗的數據來作驗證之,以做為工程方面應用的參考。
