在眾多比較出口與非出口廠商的研究中,一致獲得出口廠商擁有較高生產力的結論,亦即在出口與非出口廠商間存有反應生產力差異的效率斷層(efficiency gap)。出口廠商可以從國際市場學習,達到提高生產力的目的,這種經出口學習行為假說被用於解釋為何出口廠商有較高生產力的原因。本研究利用民國75、80與85年所辦理之「台閩地區工商及服務業普查」資料,實證分析台灣電子業廠商出口行為與生產力成長的關聯。研究重點集中於廠商出口行為的變動,是否影響其生產力的成長,亦即檢定台灣電子業廠商有無經出口學習的行為。除考量廠商規模或生產形式的跨期變動對生產力成長的貢獻,由於一些無法觀察的因素如生產技術的研發、要素價格的變動等,很可能同時影響廠商的生產力與出口行為。因此,在影響廠商生產力成長的因素中,廠商的進出出口市場的狀態很可能為一內生變數。我們利用三階段最小平方法(3SLS)聯立估計廠商總要素生產力成長及出口行為兩模型,實證結果推翻Aw et al. (2000)的發現,亦即台灣電子業新進廠商在進入出口市場後的生產力成長並不會比持續不出口廠商高。換言之,在台灣電子業廠商中,經出口學習行為假說並未成立
