The current documents of personal expectancy of retirement age mainly emphasize on personal economic factors, but recently, other countries have already extended its research to discuss about the household and social factors’ impact on the expectancy of retirement age. Moreover, scholars have indicated that research on the relationship between household factors and the personal expectancy of retirement age will be the mainstream of retirement research for the next decade.
In this essay, we use the “Human Resource Survey plus Work Experience Survey Data” in Oct, 1997 by Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting, Statistics, Executive Yuan, which takes each household as its research subject according to the household number.
First of all, we discuss about if the household member factors will have an impact on the personal expectancy of retirement age. Then, we classify the census data by each household structure to discuss them by group. And we observe if the influence level of household factors in each household type on the personal expectancy of retirement age have a difference. Further, if the individual in the household has a spouse, we discuss whether the individual’s and its spouse’s decisions on the expectancy of retirement age have the positively interacting relations. In addition, this essay further explores how the personal financial condition forms an influence on the timing of the personal expectancy of retirement age choice.
According to the empirical result, the household factors do have an impact on the decision of person’s expectancy of retirement age. As the household type differs, the level of influence differs. The spouse’s expectancy of retirement age has spillover effect on the decision of a person’s retirement age, thus, the individual would incline to retire with his or her spouse at the same time. Besides, if a person has to carry more family financial responsibilities, he or she would postpone the decision of its expectancy of retirement age.
