Facing the variety needs of customers, enterprises are pushing to speed up product development; in addition, the type of product is also more diversified. To accelerate the improvement of product upgrades and evolution, it usually develop product based on product platform. However, traditional product platform focuses on generic structure of products, functional demand of products, and the modularity and sharing of components, not considering the production of products corresponding to the process, activities and resources, and it could lead to the appearance of gap between product development and production activities.
The study will construct a product-process platform in consideration of product and its production process in attempts to combine product platform and production process. It aims at integrating product structure and production process effectively and planning all members’ production plans aggregately in the supply chain in order to take a rapid responds to change at product development stage, even achieve:
     1. the diversity of products to utilize resources flexibility
     2. adjusting process to meet the of change components
     3. controlling production cost, time, and resources
To construct a platform, this study decomposes product modular architecture with component-based DSM first. Then, we adopt IDEF0 to plan the production process to combine the operation with product structure, and achieving optimization process with task-based DSM. Besides, to estimate the cost with activity-based costing is also one of the priorities of development. To demonstrate the proposed framework for developing product-process platform, we use electronic reading device as an implementation example.
