本文的主旨在於深入探討現代社會中「隱私（權）」議題的哲學性論述，所謂「隱私（權）」議題，即是包含「隱私」和「隱私權」兩個概念的議題，上述兩種概念雖然不是完全相等的概念，但卻有著密不可分的關係。
在「隱私（權）」的哲學性論述上，「化約主義」與「功能主義」是極為重要的
兩種不同主張，這兩種論述幾乎針鋒相對的原因在於：目前對於「隱私」和「隱私
權」概念的定義都是有缺漏的；此外這兩種主義深受美國「憲法」與「侵權法」的
法律背景影響，而採取兩個不同的法律立場來論述。
除了深入探討這兩種主義的論證之外，本文也經由這兩種主義的對話，進一步
瞭解、比較兩者的關係；並且本文要透過現代社會中已經漸漸產生變化的「隱私（權）」內涵來進一步評估這兩者未來對「隱私（權）」詮釋的發展性與可能面臨的問題。
本文在「隱私（權）」議題上所得到的結論，或許與一般人的直覺或大多數學者
的功能主義觀點不同，但是卻更多考慮到現代社會中「隱私（權）」內涵的變化，期待能為「隱私（權）」議題，提供一個更新的哲學性論述思考方向。
