自從R.Gibrat (1931)提出隨機理論來解釋廠商成長與其規模分配的關係後，廠商成長理論逐漸受到重視。近年來研究廠商成長理論逐漸朝向廠商之間的異質性與廠商成長間的關係，本文主要探討研發活動對廠商成長的影響，由於研發活動本身具有公共財的性質，本文特別考慮由研發活動所引起的外溢效果對廠商成長的影響，主要的結論有以下幾點：
(1)廠商規模與廠商成長是負相關的；但廠商規模越大，則廠商存活機率越高。
(2)廠齡與廠商成長是正相關的；但廠齡越久，則廠商存活機率越高。
(3)研發活動的資本支出與廠商成長是正相關的；且與廠商存活機率也是正相關。
(4)研發活動帶來的外溢效果對廠商成長是正相關的。
(5)產業內的外溢效果大於產業間的外溢效果。
